UNITED WAY CELEBRATES CAMPAIGN ACHIEVEMENT

United Way of the Eastern Panhandle Holds Annual Celebration

MARTINSBURG, WV United Way of the Eastern Panhandle officially closed the 2022-2023 Campaign Year with its Annual Celebration, held on Thursday, June 15.  The meeting was an opportunity for United Way to celebrate the exceptional accomplishments and invaluable contributions of local businesses, organizations, and individuals during the Community Campaign.

During the event, CEO Penny Porter highlighted the achievements of the Community Campaign and announced a fundraising total of $1,112,741 for the 2022-2023 Campaign Year. All funds raised will be invested in local community programs and initiatives addressing critical needs in the areas of education, financial stability, health, and basic needs.

The campaign achievement included results from the 2023 Unity Campaign. In its fourth year, the fundraising campaign, designed to empower nonprofits in their own fundraising efforts, resulted in a community investment of $430,166.93. The total Includes $100,000 in matching funds secured by United Way of the Eastern Panhandle and distributed to participating agencies.

The Spirit of Giving award was presented to Jefferson County Schools and James Rumsey Technical Institute in recognition of their support of a Mobile Learning Center.

Teresa McCabe and Deborah Crites of WVU Medicine were honored with the Campaign Volunteer of the Year Award for their dedication and commitment to the success of the Community Campaign.

The top three employee workplace campaigns were Gold Award: Procter & Gamble Tabler Station; Silver Award: Potomac Edison/FirstEnergy; Bronze Award: City National Bank.

United Way of the Eastern Panhandle also recognized its Top 20 Most Generous Companies during the celebration. The list included workplace campaigns, Unity Campaign support, in-kind gifts, and sponsorships. United Way of the Eastern Panhandle’s Top 20 Most Generous Companies were: Procter & Gamble Tabler Station, United Bank, Potomac Edison/FirstEnergy, CNB Bank, City National Bank, WVU Medicine, Valley Health, Orgill, Inc., Family Bible Church, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races, St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, Jefferson Distributing, FedEx SmartPost, Jefferson Security Bank, BCT, Bowles Rice, LLP, WVRC Media, Farmers & Mechanics Mutual Insurance Co., Citi, and Jefferson Medical Center.

CEO Penny Porter announced $200,000 in Community Solutions Grant allocations. Twenty-seven Live United grants were awarded to local agencies. Five Community Impact grants in the amount of $20,000 each were awarded to Morgan County Schools/Morgan County Partnership, Boys and Girls Club of the Eastern Panhandle, Berkeley County BackPack Program, Berkeley County Meals on Wheels, and Community Networks, Inc.

Outgoing Board Chair, Donald L. Jacot Jr. was recognized for his leadership during the 2022-2023 Campaign Year. The incoming Board Chair will be Karen Richards.

The 2023 Community Campaign will begin with the 29th Annual Day of Caring on September 12, 2023.
